Do Davinci cribs require the conversion rail kit to convert to a full size bed?

I am expecting a little one in the fall and have just begun crib shopping. I know that I want a crib that converts to a toddler bed and full size bed later on. I'm considering the Davinci Jayden crib. Does anyone know if the conversion rails are necessary to convert the crib to a full size bed or will any metal bed frame work where I would just have to attach the headboard and/or footboard?
